Managing Ocular Allergies

The first treatment of any ocular allergy is to avoid the offending allergens.3 Non-drug therapies include artificial tears to dilute and remove allergens and cold compresses to reduce swelling.3

With VKC and AKC, be aware of the duration of the disease and its possible complications.1,2,9 Avoid non-specific triggers such as sun, wind and salt water by using sunglasses, hats with visors and swimming goggles. Frequently wash hands and face.9

Depending on what type of ocular allergy you have, your eye doctor may prescribe prescription eye drops.3 Your doctor may also discontinue your contact lens wear for a period of time or permanently, depending on your condition.3,11
